Dear Parents and Students:

With much anticipation and preparation, the start of the 2021-22 school year is now upon us. I hope all Nighthawk families have had a fun and restful summer. We have been reviewing safety measures and carefully planning for a school year that will look and feel a bit more like what we are used to. We are very excited at the opportunity to reunite and collectively move forward with education in our community.

As our population is still being affected by this pandemic, we need to continue to work together, support each other and make decisions to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone. Schools will be returning to regular full-class instruction with certain safety measures in place to continue to protect students and staff and reduce the spread of COVID-19. These include effective practices such as regular hand washing, wearing of masks for all volunteers, staff and students in grades 4-7, daily health checks, strict ventilation, cleaning and sanitation measures, and physical distancing when possible. Students are no longer required to be in cohorts or learning groups and will share a common recess and lunch time once again. Each year I look forward to working with the dedicated, hard-working, professional staff, the Osoyoos children and families and the many educational partners that support our learning community. As well, I look forward to continuing to build positive relationships with parents and community members. In the 2021-22 school year, we will provide a strong educational program with specific attention to the social-emotional well-being of our children and support them using Trauma-Informed Practices. We will also focus on their literacy and numeracy skills as we nurture the development of resiliency, self regulation, social skills and social responsibility.

We encourage all parents and guardians to take an active role in their child's education. Together, we can provide your child the support and direction he/she needs to lead a successful and rewarding life.

Warm regards,
David Foster
